Dr. Robert Scott (B.S. ’91)
Dr. Robert Scott exemplifies the transformative power of a Norfolk State University education. A proud Spartan, he earned his bachelor’s degree in biology as part of the prestigious Dozoretz National Institute for Mathematics and Applied Sciences (DNIMAS) program. Breaking barriers, Dr. Scott became the first DNIMAS scholar to earn a Ph.D., completing his doctorate in cell and molecular biology at Georgia Tech. Scott returned to Norfolk State as a biology professor after earning his doctorate when NSU’s second President, Dr. Harrison B. Wilson, asked him to join the faculty. He served as a role model to students by demonstrating what they could achieve. In 2025, Dr. Scott was appointed 11th President of Albany State University, where he champions operational excellence, student success, and growth opportunities for Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).
He credits Norfolk State with putting him on a career path that led to leadership roles in academia and industry. His journey includes serving as a biology professor, associate dean at Spelman College and Boston College, and holding senior executive positions at global corporations such as Abbott Nutrition, The Coca-Cola Company, and Kraft Heinz.
His story reflects NSU’s enduring mission to prepare leaders who make an impact across education, industry, and society.
