Dr. Trevor S. Lies is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology where he teaches PSY 211: Basic Principles of Psychology, PSY 360: Research Methods, and PSY 391: Readings in Psychology (Environmental Psychology). As director of the Environment & Psychology Research Group, he specializes in Cultural Psychology, Environmental Psychology, and critical theoretical perspectives in and on psychological science.
His research examines how communities, institutions, and disciplinary psychology respond to ecological change and engage with matters of environmental (in)justice. Dr. Lies is interested in how people experience environmental amenities, hazards, and change, the roles of racism, ideology, and culture, and disciplinary psychology's approach to studying these issues.
His work has appeared in scholarly journals such as the Journal of Environmental Psychology, Frontiers in Climate, and Psychology in Society. Most recently, he published a chapter titled Decolonial Considerations of Environmentalism in an edited textbook by Springer titled Community, Psychology, and Climate Justice. He is a member of APA Division 8: Society for Personality and Social Psychology, Division 9: Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues, and Division 34: Society for Environmental, Population & Conservation Psychology.
