Campus Crime and Awareness

Norfolk State University Police Department prepares, publishes and distributes an annual Campus Security Report in compliance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act. Institutions that participate in student financial aid programs under Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 must comply with the conditions of this Act. — University Police Department website


Campus Hazing Transparency Report

Published in compliance with Virginia law and the Higher Education Act, this report provides updates on reported incidents, investigation outcomes, and related policies. Hazing Policy

University employees, students and other members of the University community must report all acts of hazing to the NSU Police Department. Incidents may be reported in person or by dialing the non-emergency number at (757) 823-8102. In emergency situations, dial (757) 823-9000. 

A new law passed in the state of Virginia on July 1, 2022 - Adam's Law.  It focuses on hazing prevention for all colleges in Virginia (public and private).  The law is named in memory of VCU student Adam Oakes, who died in February 2011.

Highlights include the following:

  • *Mandatory, in-person hazing prevention training for current members, new members, potential new members, and advisors of any student organization with a new member process.
  • *Disciplinary immunity for certain individuals who make hazing reports.
  • *Beginning with the 2022-2023 academic year, maintain and publicly report actual findings of violations of the institution's code of conduct or of federal or state laws pertaining to hazing to campus authorities or local law enforcement.
  • In accordance with Adams Law, reports that result in actual findings of violations will be available at www.nsu.edu and www.nsu.edu/greek-life.
