Using water wisely to reduce waste and ensure a reliable water supply for the future.It involves measuring how much water is needed to complete a task and using the least amount possible. Water reduction can refer to the practice of using less water or reducing water waste.

 Here are some ways to reduce water use:  

  • Water your lawn in the morning or evening: Water your lawn when the sun is not as hot so the water doesn't evaporate as quickly.  
  • Use a shut-off nozzle: Use a shut-off nozzle on your hose to prevent leaks.  
  • Defrost food in the fridge: Let frozen foods defrost in the fridge instead of running them under hot water.  
  • Use a washing-up bowl: Use a washing-up bowl in the sink to reduce the amount of water used.  
  • Use lids on saucepans: Cover saucepans with lids to reduce water loss while heating.  
  • Fix leaks: Check for and fix leaky faucets, toilets, and pipes. A dripping tap can waste gallons of water each day.  
  • Install water-efficient fixtures: Install water-efficient shower heads, aerators, and toilets. WaterSense shower heads use no more than 2 gallons of water per minute, while standard showerheads use 2.5 gallons.  
  • Take shorter showers: Limit showers to five minutes or less.  
  • Turn off the water: Turn off the water while brushing your teeth, shaving, or washing vegetables.  
  • Use full loads: Use your dishwasher and washing machine only when they are full.
