FINANCIAL AID

Students can utilize a combination of financial aid grants, loans (Ford Direct, Parent Plus, alternative/private), and scholarships. Non-university scholarships are not credited toward tuition, fees, room and board charges until funds are received from the granting organization; however, these awards may be considered as anticipated financial aid when establishing payment plans (see below) and included in the total amount of aid that will be used toward payment of University expenses. A copy of non-university scholarship notification should be sent to the financial aid office.

financialaid@nsu.edu

NOTE: Parent Plus and alternative/private loans must be approved by the lender; and the loan application and approval must be received in the Financial Aid office prior to the class cancellation deadline. Student Accounts must be notified before credit can be given for the loan amount. Apply for financial aid funding early. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) can be completed on-line at https://studentaid.gov. Processing may take up to six weeks.

Third Party Billing / Sponsorships

Students can enroll in third-party / sponsored billing, which is an arrangement where Norfolk State University bills the student’s third-party sponsor for authorized charges on the student’s behalf. In these cases, the third-party sponsor requires a bill from the University before remitting payment. In such cases, the granting agency must make the payment directly to Norfolk State University within 30 days of the billing date.

Students that wish to enroll in third-party sponsored billing must submit a billing authorization from the third-party sponsor to Norfolk State University’s Office of Student Accounts prior to or at the time of registration. The billing authorization allows Norfolk State University to bill a sponsor for authorized student account charges.

The billing authorization should be submitted in person at the Student Accounts office or sent to the Third-Party Coordinator at sponsoredbilling@nsu.edu. Alternatively, the billing authorization can be mailed to:

Attn: Third-Party Coordinator
Norfolk State University
700 Park Avenue
Student Servies Center, Suite 209
Norfolk, VA 23504

**Add link to 3rd Party FAQs

NOTE: Third-party / sponsored billing is not the same as tuition reimbursement between a student and an employer or other organization. Under tuition reimbursement, a student is required to prove they already paid for tuition and fees and earned certain grades before they can request reimbursement directly from an employer or other organization. Norfolk State University is not involved in tuition reimbursement agreements between students and their employers or any other organization.
