What to Expect

  • Multi modal EV Showcase: Don’t just hear about the future, see it in action. We are thrilled to feature a hands-on look at the diverse electric fleet moving Virginia forward.
  • E-Mobility Press Conference: Hear from key E-Mobility stakeholders from across the Commonwealth talk about the importance of E-Mobility across a multitude of sectors and industries, and how they are important to Virginia’s future. 

Meetings with Legislators: Meet with your legislators about key policy issues affecting the E-Mobility space in Virginia. This is also an opportunity to answer any questions legislators may have about the future of E-Mobility in Virginia.

Engineering and Engineering Technology Majors

Come out to the Energy Water Audit Training Session

The Engineering Technology Department and the Energy & Sustainability Department present Kapur Energy Environment Economics (KEEE) LLC Energy Water Training Session on Tues., Oct. 28, 4 p.m., at Robinson Tech, Room 136.

Register with Ms. Dozier in RTC, Rm 420.

The session includes an Energy Water Audit Demonstration. The 90-minute session will be informative and include internship needs and upcoming projects.

Dr. Kajal Kapur will serve as the Program Manager and lead the effort. She has a Ph.D. in economics from Cornell University and has managed energy, environment and economics projects for more than 30 years.

Rick Lubinski, KEEE Manager, will provide the training and conduct the walk-through. He has conducted over 1200 energy audits (ASHRAE Levels 1,2,3 and custom) in 38 states over 40 years. He has performed Level 3 energy audits at educational institutions


2025 Let's Talk About Men's Health Event

Join us for this FREE event--for male faculty and staff--as we put together the pieces for a well-balanced life including the physical, mental, and spiritual aspects. Featured speakers are Dr. Travis Lee, Mr. Dennis Riddick, and Dr. Melvin O. Marriner. 

Earth Day 2025  – Shredding and Recycling Event

Norfolk State University’s Environmental Equity Model Project and the Department of Energy & Sustainability are offer an annual Shredding and Recycling Event, taking place on Earth Day

Norfolk State University Student, Faculty, Staff, and surrounding community will be allowed to dispose of university documents and personal documents. ​Disposal of the items being shredded and recycled will be collected at this event and handled by Commonwealth Document Management (CDM). ​The event may end early if the shred truck and electronic recycling truck reach capacity. ​

Hampton Roads Green Fleet Expo 

Jordan-Newby Anchor Branch 1425 Norchester Ave., Norfolk, VA, United States

  Join Virginia Clean Cities, Propane Education Research Council, the City of Norfolk and other local government fleets for an informative session on alternative fuels and green fleet best practices.  There will be cutting-edge vehicles on display, educational sessions, and lunch!   Hear low- and zero-emission vehicle case studies from early adopter fleets 


Energy & Sustainability Strategic Plan Kick Off

The energy and sustainability team is excited to invite you and any other campus stakeholders (including students) to participate in our Energy and Sustainability Strategic Plan (ESSP) focus group sessions:

  • Wednesday, October 16, 1 am-4 pm in Student Center, Room 138B
  • and/or the ESSP Kickoff Thursday October 17, from 11 am-1 pm, in Student Center, Room 149.

Alternatively, filling out this quick (3-minute) survey will provide us with information about your role on campus and which focus group you wish to be assigned to.  


Virginia University’s Community of Practice Conference

  • Joined my facilities colleagues for a networking and knowledge event at the Virginia Universities’ Community of Practice Conference (VUCOP)
  •  Norfolk State University was the only HBCU in attendance.
  • The event is themed “Sustainable Facilities” with three general topic areas: Energy & Utilities, Facilities Operations & Asset Management, and Sustainability.
  • Over the last year and a half we have had some productive engagements and expanded our body of knowledge as we have learned how the different Universities across the Commonwealth manage limited resources to maintain our facilities and manage programs.

National Energy Awareness Month

October is National Energy Awareness Month, our annual national effort to highlight the importance of energy for Norfolk State University. A time to raise awareness of the critical role energy plays to drive behavior change only to encourage “SMART” energy use for our college campus.

We at the Energy & Sustainability Department challenge you to protect the power we have by looking for ways to save energy and other resources. Every effort counts – small changes daily on our NSU campus leads to substantial savings when multiplied across Norfolk State University.


Virginia Energy Summit

This Summit continues the work of previous years to establish a better understanding of the costs and benefits of renewable energy, the fuel and infrastructure needs of sector industries, the pending threats to electric grid stability, the national and economic implications of electrifying the economy, the burgeoning cost of electric transmission infrastructure,and the regulatory transparency needed to protect consumers and producers from imprudent, unaffordable costs.


NSU EV Demonstration Event

The Department of Energy & Sustainability has been working with Virginia Clean Cities - Mid-Atlantic Electrification Partnership who participates with EVHybridNoire - Mobility Intelligence Consulting Group

  • EVHybridNoire is the leading outreach and education efforts for the Mid-Atlantic Electrification Partnership to celebrate National Drive Electric Week with an Electric Vehicle Demonstration Event September 29,2023
  • The Electric Vehicle Demonstration Event provides NSU students with access to EV technology and share information about upcoming education, training, and future EV Service Equipment.
  • Such event will lay the foundation to a E-Mobility Fellowship Program, Hybrid Vehicle grant opportunity for the NSU University Police vehicles, EV Charging Infrastructure campus-wide and a 12-week entrepreneur EV Certified program.

Rally in Richmond - Electric Vehicles(EV) 2024

VCC honors Virginia’s green fleets and stakeholders with this special event held at the Main Street Station in Richmond. VCC will also host a reception, awards ceremony, workshops and vehicle demos. This event is VCC’s annual fundraiser to advance clean alternative fuel programs in Virginia and beyond. Join vendors, industry leaders and fellow enthusiasts to exhibit with a booth or show off your alternative fuel vehicles!
