The Office of Transfer Admissions & Services (OTAS) provides a high level of service to students seeking to transfer to Norfolk State University. Our goal is to recruit and aid in the retention of transfer students who are focused on career driven goals and graduation and provide enrollment support through advocacy and communication of transfer student issues to both internal and external constituencies.

When will I know if I am accepted?
The Office of Transfer Admissions & Services continues to review, process applications and offer decisions on a daily basis.  Admissions decisions are offered on completed applications.  Please ensure official transcripts from all institutions attended are submitted to the Office of Transfer Admissions & services.   

What if I cannot pay my enrollment deposit when it is due?
The Office of Enrollment Management has a program in place to assist eligible students who would like to pay the enrollment deposit but are currently unable.  Email transfer@nsu.edu for information.

I have other questions about applying to NSU, where can I find help?

How do I find my academic advisor?
New transfer students with 0-59 college level credit hours can find their academic advisor in the Student Success Department located in the Nursing General Education Building. Please contact them at (757) 823-8507 / ssc@nsu.edu. New transfer students with 60 or more college level credit hours can find their academic advisor within their academic department.

How will I register for my summer classes at NSU?
Once you have received your acceptance packet and pay your enrollment deposit, please follow the steps on the NextSteps web page.

  • New transfer students with 0-59 college level credits will register for courses with our Patricia Lynch Stith Student Success Center. Please call 757-823-8507 to make an advising appointment.
  • New transfer students with 60 or more college level credits will register for courses in your academic department.  Please visit the NextSteps page to obtain your program information.

How will I register for my fall classes at NSU?
Once you have received your acceptance packet and pay your enrollment and orientation fee, please follow steps in the enrollment process on the NextSteps page. New Spartan Orientation sessions will be held virtually and require live participation.

  • NSU Online students must attend New Online Student Orientation, you must have access to Blackboard via MyNSU. 
  • For all new transfer students, the degree plan hold is removed when you attend New Spartan Transfer Orientation.  


What if my Spartan Transfer Orientation is cancelled?
In case of cancellation, you will be contacted with an alternate for your orientation session.  All Spartan Transfer Orientation sessions, to include academic advising and course registration, will be held virtually and require live participation.

Where can I get information and updates about housing?
New Transfer Housing Information can be found on the Office of Housing and Residence Life website.      

FASFA Deadlines
Check the FASFA deadlines on the NSU Financial Aid website. The school code is 003765.  

What if my financial status has changed significantly, can I apply for more aid?
Norfolk State University recognizes that special circumstances may affect a student’s eligibility for federal financial aid. Special circumstances can include, but are not limited to, loss of income, loss of employment, loss of benefits, death or divorce.  Professional judgment is designed to document such information for review by the Office of Financial Aid. 

If you and/or your family household have circumstances that have resulted in a reduction of income that is substantially less than what was reported on the FAFSA, you will need to consult with a Financial Aid counselor or call (757) 823-8381 to request an appeal form before submitting your documentation for consideration.  Students may also apply for scholarships or grants.
