
Dr. Cherng-tiao Perng holds a Ph.D. in Mathematics and an M.S. in Computer and Information Technology from the University of Pennsylvania, as well as M.S. and B.S. degrees in Mathematics from National Taiwan University. His research interests span algebra and number theory, arithmetic algebraic geometry, optimization and game theory, and actuarial science.
Dr. Perng has extensive experience mentoring students in actuarial science, including guiding them to success in exams offered by the Society of Actuaries and the Casualty Actuarial Society through online discussion forums. Additionally, he has advised senior projects for NSU mathematics majors pursuing teacher certification.
His contributions to mathematical education include publications such as notes for actuarial science educators, an expository article on the factorization of Hurwitz quaternions, and works on classical geometry. Recently, Dr. Perng served as the Principal Investigator for the Robert Noyce Capacity Building Project at Norfolk State University, where his team established critical partnerships and helped students achieve milestones like passing the PRAXIS II exams.
Since the summer of 2023, Dr. Perng has also served as the Coordinator of MathCounts for the Tidewater Chapter, furthering his commitment to mathematics education and outreach.
