Flock Safety (ALPR)

What is Flock Safety (ALPR)

"Flock Safety cameras are automated license plate reader (ALPR) systems designed to enhance public safety by capturing and analyzing vehicle information. These cameras are typically mounted on poles or existing infrastructure and record license plates, vehicle make, model, color, and other distinguishing features—without using facial recognition technology.

At Norfolk State University, Flock cameras are utilized as a force multiplier for campus police and public safety operations. Their primary purpose is to help deter crime, assist in real-time investigations, and support the rapid identification of vehicles linked to criminal activity, such as stolen cars or suspects involved in incidents on or near campus. The system can generate alerts when a flagged vehicle enters or exits designated areas, allowing officers to respond more quickly and effectively.

Overall, Flock cameras support Norfolk State University’s commitment to a safer campus environment by improving situational         awareness, strengthening investigative capabilities, and enhancing collaboration with local law enforcement partners."
