First Time Freshmen

As you embark on your new journey as a Spartan, one step is to register to attend New Student Orientation.

Step One

Access your NSU student email account, visit First-time Students webpage. For assistance logging into your student email account contact clientservices@nsu.edu or call 757-823-8678.

Step Two

Math Placement Test (First Time Freshmen only, if applicable). Must be completed prior to completing orientation. ALEKS PPL is administered online and can be taken remotely, at your convenience. If you do not have a compatible device, you can contact Testing Services at (757) 823-2504 to schedule an appointment. You can also email testingcenter@nsu.edu . You will need your NSU username and password to log in to your exam. (This step does not apply to transfer students.)

Step Three

Submit your health immunization form by visiting Medicat Connect. Type in your spartan email address to get started and follow the directions to start a new account. For assistance contact the Spartan Health Center at 757-278-3360.

Step Four

All students must obtain a student identification card, also known as a SpartanCard. Students attending Norfolk State University will have the opportunity to send in a photo for their SpartanCard. Students must complete the Online Photo Submission form at SpartanCard Online Photo Submission or download the Online Form. For more information check-out the SpartanCard webpage.

Step Five

Please note before registering for New Student Orientation, you must review and complete the items on the Admitted Student Checklist.

To log in to your Spartan Portal, please utilize the username and password you created to log into your NSU Application.
