Her Hairs like the Sun and Clouds by Sam Modder
This exhibition featured artworks inspired by hair, head coverings, and hats. These are not just part of fashion but are culturally significant. They can signify heritage, religious affiliation, political views, and more. In this exhibition, the James Wise Gallery invited artists to consider the racial, social, cultural, and political meanings of hair, hats, and head coverings.

Black Prometheus: The Legacy of Jacob Lawrence and the Global Modernist Art of the Mid-Twentieth Century
Oct. 21 - Nov. 23, 2022
Opening Reception: Oct 21 (6-9 PM)
Lifted by Debra Frederick
This exhibition will featured artworks inspired by the work of Jacob Lawrence, the Mbari Artists & Writers Club, and modernist artists from around the world, who sought to move beyond the Western and Eurocentric artistic emphasis by integrating diverse cultures from around the world, blending styles and traditions. As such, the artists included in Black Prometheus represented the rapid change, influence of post-colonialism, and increased globalization of the modern world by exploring the styles, sociopolitical issues, cultural identities, and art practices during the mid-twentieth century.
