A native of Brazil, Dr. Ana Elisa Portes holds a Doctor of Musical Arts in Vocal Performance from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where she studied under Dr. Kimberly Gratland James. She also earned a Master’s degree in Vocal Performance from the University of New Mexico, studying with Dr. Olga Perez Flora and Dr. Kristin Ditlow, as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Vocal Performance from the University of São Paulo, where she studied with Prof. Francisco Campos and Dr. Ricardo Ballestero. In addition, she holds a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from the University of Sagrado Coração.

Her operatic roles include Papagena (Die Zauberflöte), Dorabella (Così fan tutte), Tolomeo (Giulio Cesare), the Sorceress (Dido and Aeneas), Rosine (Signor Deluso), Don Ettore (La Canterina), and Isolier (Le comte Ory). As a concert soloist, she has appeared in performances of Mozart’s Requiem and Coronation Mass, Vivaldi’s Gloria, Beethoven’s Choral Fantasy, Fauré’s Requiem, and Ravel’s Shéhérazade.

Dr. Portes is an active recitalist in both Brazil and the United States. Her research and artistic interests include Brazilian art song, vocal pedagogy, and cross-cultural performance practice.

Prior to joining NSU, Dr. Portes was a full-time music and voice teacher at St. Paul’s School in São Paulo. She also served as a teaching assistant at the University of New Mexico and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
