From its earliest years University leadership recognized the importance of exposure to good music as one of the hallmarks of a well-educated individual. Cultivating the power of music studies has played a pivotal role in the development of artists, educators, and media professionals in the Commonwealth of Virginia, the nation, and the world.

Steeped in a rich heritage, traditions, and outreach, the Division of Music values its role in providing high-quality instruction in music education, music media, and music appreciation that empowers its diverse student body to achieve maximum competence in a rapidly changing global society.

Private and classroom instruction with a renowned faculty engages students in their quest to attain the highest levels of musicianship as well as collaborate with nationally-acclaimed ensembles and perform in major concert halls and venues throughout the country.

Music Media majors are able to explore the wide array of roles for creative professionals in the entertainment industry, including audio and music production, recording arts, and legal protection of music and musicians. Students can channel their passion in a wealth of experiences in state-of-the-art facilities.

The musical journey at NSU prepares students for excellence in their musical pursuits. There are opportunities for music-making across a variety of genres, styles, and disciplines. And we provide enriching exposure through educational and historical travel.

There is a synergy and passion for the development of musical expression at NSU. With a legacy of aesthetic and professional contributions in the field of music, undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and ensembles present over one hundred performances annually. With plans for a new Visual and Performing Arts building on the horizon, the Division is optimistic about the endless musical, educational, and outreach opportunities for students and the community at-large.

Come join us and walk in the footsteps of Noah F. Ryder, Reginald Parker, Adolphus Hailstork, Emery Fears, and more. Be a part of the excitement of all that makes NSU a great place to grow and thrive. NSU Division of Music looks forward to your arrival for a glorious musical experience.
