Kathleen Bowling, B.A., SHRM-CP
As the Employee Experience Manager at Norfolk State University, Kathleen Bowling brings over eight years of Human Resources operations and management experience to her role. She is committed to enhancing the employee lifecycle by streamlining HR processes and fostering a workplace culture grounded in support, clarity, and engagement. With a strong background in benefits administration, policy development, and procedural implementation, Kathleen works closely with staff and leadership to ensure a consistent and responsive employee experience. She holds a Bachelor's degree in English Education, will complete her MBA later this year, and is a SHRM-Certified Professional committed to advancing human resources excellence within the Spartan community.
Stacie Gaines
Serves as the Manager of HR Operations and HRIS. Stacie's area of HR concentrates on streamlining human resource systems, enhancing operational efficiency, and optimizing benefits administration. 25 years of service to the Commonwealth of Virginia, including 22 years at Norfolk State University. Holds a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies and a Master of Arts in Urban Affairs, both from Norfolk State University.
Lisa Little
Lisa M. Little serves as the Employee Relations Manager for Norfolk State University. Her goal is to provide employees and managers with support in problem-solving and conflict resolution. She provides guidance on human resources policies, procedures, and laws. Her duties include oversight of the employee assistance program, performance improvement planning, mediation coordination, conducting employee relations investigations, grievance administration, and the administration of disciplinary action.
Brittney Wilder, B.A. Brittney Wilder is the HR Client Services Manager at Norfolk State University, where she brings over 10 years of progressive Human Resources experience across payroll, talent acquisition, FMLA administration, benefits management, HRIS, and strategic leadership. Her career includes serving as an HR Director, where she led enterprise-level initiatives focused on operational efficiency and employee engagement. In her current role, Brittney leads a high-performing team of seven HR Business Partners and four HR Consultants, driving client-focused HR solutions that align with institutional goals. Known for her collaborative leadership style, she fosters partnerships across departments to deliver responsive, people-centered services. Brittney earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from North Carolina A&T State University and is passionate about using technology and human capital strategies to strengthen organizational culture and support workforce success.
Krista Simmons, M. A., Ed, SHRM-SCP
As the HR Compliance & Policy Manager at Norfolk State University, Krista Simmons brings over 15 years of Human Resources expertise to her role, where she supports the university’s mission by fostering a culture of accountability, equity, and excellence. A proud alumna with a Master’s degree from NSU and a SHRM Senior Certified Professional from the Society of Human Resource Management, Krista partners with faculty to ensure policy clarity, guides students in understanding workplace standards, and collaborates with external stakeholders to uphold best practices in compliance and ethics. Her work helps create a supportive and transparent environment where all members of the Spartan community can thrive.
