Jean Guillaume

Jean is an assistant professor with the Department of Mathematics at Norfolk State University. He earned his Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of Rhode Island under the supervision of Michael D. Barrus.

His research interests lie primarily in graph theory and its interaction with other fields, including data science. Of particular interest are extremal and structural problems as well as the analysis of random networks and graph-structured data. Jean has also done work related to poset theory and majorization. Most importantly, he is always open to new ideas and welcomes interdisciplinary collaboration. He enjoys teaching and working 1-1 with students. His pedagogical approach is predicated upon making the math as “real” as possible. That is, to make it authentic, relevant, and relatable without compromising rigor. Jean is an ardent supporter of inclusive and collaborative teaching. He constantly looks for creative ways to keep students excited and engaged with mathematics. Apart from doing Math, Jean loves playing soccer and bicycling.
