Bachelor of Science in Biology

The Biology department offers a diversity of career options that lead to a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. Students can choose the BS.BIO option that enables them to pursue a graduate degree with an option for employment at the bachelors level or the BS.BIO.PP option that provides a background for students that are interested in medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, Osteopathy and pharmacy.

Biology Programs

The Biology Department provides a diversity of career options through three courses of study that lead to a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology.

  • B.S. in Biology (Track 1)
Enables majors to pursue graduate degrees with an option for employment at the bachelor level.
  • B.S. in Biology (Track 2)
Students will follow Option 1, then seek specific endorsement. (e.g., teachers’ licensure)
  • B.S. in Biology Pre-professional (Track 3)
Provides a background for students seeking post-graduate training in medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, optometry, pharmacy, osteopathy, podiatry and advanced graduate research fields.
  • Minor in Biology
  • Completion of a minor requires that a student earn a C (2.0) or better in each of the required courses. Substitutions are not possible for core courses.

Students who successfully complete the requirements for either of the three above models will be considered Biology majors. A grade of "C" or better is required in all courses of the major group. The "major group" includes all required science and mathematics courses, and this definition is applicable to all students who enrolled in the Department beginning in the Fall Semester of 1989 and thereafter.

WHAT TO EXPECT AS A BIOLOGY STUDENT

The department strives to develop young scholars who are able to evaluate and communicate knowledge, make ethical decisions and play an active and productive role in their communities.
