The Center for Public Health Initiatives at NSU (CPHI) was created to help NSU establish its identity in public health research, education and practice. CPHI bolters NSU's creativity, nimbleness and responsiveness as it works to help communities thrive and pursue social justice.

  • To facilitate the development of public health focused academic, academic support and other programs
  • To serve as a catalyst for excellence in teaching, research, service and practice
  • To support the development and operations of a proposed, new School of Public Health (with Old Dominion University and Eastern Virginia Medical School)

To pursue these objectives, CPHI's team is collaborating with NSU faculty, staff and students and other partners to build sustainable, efficient and effective infrastructure aimed at achieving the following goals:

  • To provide financial, operational and other support for projects led by NSU faculty, staff and students
  • To identify funding for faculty, staff and students and support the acquisition and use of these funds
  • To create or support non-academic programs that contribute to NSU and a SPH’s missions, e.g., pipeline development programs, student organizations and training for public health professionals
  • To enhance NSU’s focus on and capability for community engagement and empowerment
  • To provide financial, operational and other support public health focused centers, institutes and other units on campus
