Scholarship Opportunities

Army ROTC is the largest grantor of college scholarships in the United States.  Each year, Army ROTC awards more than $330 million in merit-based scholarships to college students and high school seniors who desire to become Army Officers. 

U.S. ARMY CADET COMMAND SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

Cadet Command scholarships cover Tuition and Fees or Room and Board, $1200 annually for books and a monthly stipend of $420 during the months that a Cadet is enrolled in classes.

ARMY ROTC National Scholarship
A scholarship opportunity tailored for high school seniors intending to join Army ROTC, known as the Advanced Designee Scholarship. This award covers full tuition, fees, or room and board, along with funds allocated for books and a living stipend for the duration of the cadet's attendance in classes. Eligibility extends to high school seniors.

Campus Based Army ROTC Scholarship
The Advanced Designee Scholarships for Cadets enrolled in the Army ROTC program offer varying durations of support: 2, 2.5, 3, and 3.5 years. These scholarships cover either full tuition and fees or room and board expenses, providing financial assistance tailored to the needs of cadets. Additionally, recipients receive $1200 annually to support their book expenses and a $420 monthly living stipend for the months they are actively attending classes.

Eligibility for these scholarships extends to current freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and graduate students participating in the Army ROTC program. Applicants should note that scholarship board reviews occur regularly, pending the availability of funds, with specific application deadlines to be determined.  To apply, contact your ARTOC department.

Guaranteed Reserve Forces Duty (GRFD) Scholarship
For cadets serving in the Army Reserve or National Guard, several scholarship opportunities are available, each tailored to meet specific requirements and commitments. These scholarships include the Minuteman Scholarships, Dedicated Guard, Dedicated Reserve, and GRFD Scholarships. They entail cadets serving in the Guard or Reserve while pursuing their college education, with limitations on which Army component the cadet can commission into upon graduation.

The scholarships provide comprehensive financial support, covering full tuition and fees or room and board expenses. Additionally, recipients receive $1200 annually for books and a $420 monthly living stipend during months when attending classes. Eligibility for these scholarships is open to current freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and graduate students who are also active members of the U.S. Army Reserve or National Guard. To apply, contact your ARTOC department.

Nursing Cadet Scholarships
Scholarships tailored for cadets pursuing a major in Pre-Nursing/Nursing offer durations of 2, 2.5, 3, and 3.5 years. These scholarships are designed to support cadets throughout their academic journey in nursing education.

Recipients of these scholarships receive comprehensive financial assistance, covering either full tuition and fees or room and board expenses. Additionally, cadets are provided with $1200 annually for books and a $420 monthly living stipend during the months when they are actively attending classes. Current freshmen, sophomores, and juniors are eligible to apply for these scholarships.

For high school seniors interested in applying, the application process is conducted through the National Scholarship Process.  Current cadets can apply for these scholarships through scholarship boards, which are convened regularly based on the availability of funds. Application deadlines for these scholarships vary and are determined by the scholarship boards.

Garrett/Mayfield NSU Army ROTC Emerging Leaders Scholarship
The Garrett/Mayfield NSU Army ROTC Emerging Leaders Scholarship was established by Colonel (Retired) Ellsworth E. Mayfield, Jr. in honor of the life and legacy of 2LT Michael Glenn Garrett (posthumously), a US Army Infantry officer who earned his commission from the Army ROTC Program at Prairie View A&M University, Prairie View, TX.

Lieutenant Garrett was killed during night maneuvers at the National Training Center, Fort Irwin, CA in 1991. The scholarship, in the amount of $1,000 is awarded annually to a deserving Military Science I and II cadet who consistently demonstrate exceptional leadership potential for retention and transition to the NSU Army ROTC Advanced Course.

 

NSU Military Alumni Chapter (MAC) COL(ret.) Chauncey F. Crenshaw Endowed Fund
The Norfolk State University Alumni Association (NSUAA) Military Alumni Chapter (MAC) COL Crenshaw Endowed Fund Scholarship is open to current NSU Army ROTC cadets or Navy ROTC midshipmen in good standing. The scholarship may be renewed yearly based on the academic standing of the student and the availability of funds. Applicants must have above a 3.0 cumulative GPA to be considered.

Deadline(s):  October 1st for Spring Semester/ March 1st for Fall Semester.  See the Battalion ROO for more information.

NSU Military Alumni Chapter (MAC) Room & Board Scholarship
The Norfolk State University Alumni Association (NSUAA) Military Alumni Chapter (MAC) Room and Board Scholarship is open to current NSU Army ROTC cadets or Navy ROTC midshipmen in good standing. The scholarship may be renewed yearly based on the academic standing of the student and the availability of funds. Applicants must have above a 2.75 cumulative GPA to be considered. Completed applications must be postmarked not later than March 1st for the Fall Semester and October 1st for the Spring Semester.

NSU Military Alumni Chapter (MAC) Scholarship
The Norfolk State University Alumni Association (NSUAA) Military Alumni Chapter (MAC) Scholarship is open to current NSU Army ROTC cadets or Navy ROTC midshipmen in good standing. The scholarship may be renewed yearly based on the academic standing of the student and the availability of funds. Applicants must have above a 2.30 cumulative GPA to be considered. Completed applications must be postmarked not later than March 1st for the Fall Semester and October 1st for the Spring Semester.

4-Year Scholarship (High School Students Only).
The ROCKS administer a limited number of Army 4 year scholarships to perspective candidates. These are separate from and in addition to mission support allocations. They are offline and not a part of the normal electronic system. Therefore, only paper applications are accepted with "ROCKS Scholarship" written across the top of the first page. Students who have already applied for a scholarship and their applications are in the Cadet Command database are not eligible to reapply for ROCKS Scholarship

Armed Forces Communications & Electronics Association (AFCEA) ROTC
This $2000.00 scholarship is available to Sophomore/Junior Army ROTC Cadets majoring in hard science and technical majors, i.e., engineering, physics, mathematics, computer science, and computer technology. Also fields related to U.S. intelligence or homeland security are eligible. No GPA requirement – leadership and potential to be an officer are primary factors.

The Armed Forces Bank Scholarship
 Army ROTC Cadets (both scholarship and non-scholarship) may apply for this $1000.00 scholarship.

The Armed Forces Benefits Association Scholarship
Army ROTC Cadets (both scholarship and non-scholarship) may apply for this $1000.00 - $1500.00 scholarship.

The Armed Forces Insurance General Melvin Zais Army ROTC Scholarship
Non-scholarhship Army ROTC Cadets may apply for this $1000.00 scholarship.
