Scholarship Opportunities

Army ROTC is the largest grantor of college scholarships in the United States.  Each year, Army ROTC awards more than $330 million in merit-based scholarships to college students and high school seniors who desire to become Army Officers. 

U.S. Army Cadet Command Scholarship Opportunities

Cadet Command scholarships cover Tuition and Fees or Room and Board, $1200 annually for books and a monthly stipend of $420 during the months that a Cadet is enrolled in classes.

  • Army ROTC National Scholarship

    Description:  4 and 3 Year Advanced Designee Scholarships for High School Seniors who are planning on enrolling in Army ROTC. 

    Amount: 

    Full Tuition and Fees or Room and Board

    $1200 annually for books

    $420 monthly living stipend during the months that a Cadet is attending classes.

    Who may apply? High School Seniors

    Application Deadline(s):

    June 12th, 2022 - Application window for School Year 2023 opens.

    October 10th, 2022 – Deadline to submit documents to be considered during the 1st Selection Board (which convenes October 17-21, 2022). 

    January 16th, 2023 – Deadline to submit documents to be considered during the 2nd Selection Board (which convenes January 23-27, 2023). 


    February 4th, 2023Last Day to start an online application.

    March 6th, 2023 – Deadline to submit documents to be considered during the 3rd Selection Board (which convenes March 13-17, 2023). 

    *Scholarship Winners are typically notified 2-3 weeks after each board ends.

  • Campus Based Army ROTC Scholarship

    Description:  2, 2.5, 3, and 3.5 Year Scholarships for Cadets who are currently in the Army ROTC program

    Amount: 

    Full Tuition and Fees or Room and Board

    $1200 annually for books

    $420 monthly living stipend during the months that a Cadet is attending classes.

    Who may apply? Current Freshman, Sophomore, Juniors, and Grad Students

    Application Deadline(s):

    TBD.  Scholarship Boards are conducted on a regular basis as funds are made available.

  • Guaranteed Reserve Forces Duty (GRFD) Scholarship

    Description:  There are a number of different for Cadets who are serving in the Army Reserve or National Guard, including Minuteman Scholarships, Dedicated Guard, Dedicated Reserve, and GRFD Scholarships.  These require Cadets to serve in the Guard or Reserve while in college and carry restrictions as to which Army component the Cadet can commission into. 

    Amount: 

    Full Tuition and Fees or Room and Board

    $1200 annually for books

    $420 monthly living stipend during the months that a Cadet is attending classes.

    Who may apply? Current Freshman, Sophomore, Juniors, and Grad Students who are also members of the U.S. Army Reserve or National Guard. 

    Application Deadline(s):

  • Nursing Cadet Scholarships

    Description:  2, 2.5, 3, and 3.5 Year Scholarships for Cadets who majoring in Pre-Nursing/Nursing. 

    Amount: 

    Full Tuition and Fees or Room and Board

    $1200 annually for books

    $420 monthly living stipend during the months that a Cadet is attending classes.

    Who may apply? Current Freshman, Sophomore, and Juniors.

    Application Deadline(s):

    High School Seniors - apply through the National Scholarship Process – www.goarmy.com/rotc/scholarships.

    Current Cadets - Scholarship Boards are conducted on a regular basis as funds are made available.

  • Garrett/Mayfield NSU Army ROTC Emerging Leaders Scholarship

    The Garrett/Mayfield NSU Army ROTC Emerging Leaders Scholarship was established by Colonel (Retired) Ellsworth E. Mayfield, Jr. in honor of the life and legacy of 2LT Michael Glenn Garrett (posthumously), a US Army Infantry officer who earned his commission from the Army ROTC Program at Prairie View A&M University, Prairie View, TX.

    Lieutenant Garrett was killed during night maneuvers at the National Training Center, Fort Irwin, CA in 1991. The scholarship, in the amount of $1,000 is awarded annually to a deserving Military Science I and II cadet who consistently demonstrate exceptional leadership potential for retention and transition to the NSU Army ROTC Advanced Course.

  • NSU Military Alumni Chapter (MAC) COL(ret.) Chauncey F. Crenshaw Endowed Fund

    The Norfolk State University Alumni Association (NSUAA) Military Alumni Chapter (MAC) COL Crenshaw Endowed Fund Scholarship is open to current NSU Army ROTC cadets or Navy ROTC midshipmen in good standing. The scholarship may be renewed yearly based on the academic standing of the student and the availability of funds. Applicants must have above a 3.0 cumulative GPA to be considered.

    Deadline(s):  October 1st for Spring Semester/ March 1st for Fall Semester.

  • NSU Military Alumni Chapter (MAC) Room & Board Scholarship

    The Norfolk State University Alumni Association (NSUAA) Military Alumni Chapter (MAC) Room and Board Scholarship is open to current NSU Army ROTC cadets or Navy ROTC midshipmen in good standing. The scholarship may be renewed yearly based on the academic standing of the student and the availability of funds. Applicants must have above a 2.75 cumulative GPA to be considered. Completed applications must be postmarked not later than March 1st for the Fall Semester and October 1st for the Spring Semester.

    Deadline(s):  October 1st for Spring Semester/ March 1st for Fall Semester.

  • NSU Military Alumni Chapter (MAC) Scholarship

  • The National Board of the ROCKS, Inc.

    4-Year Scholarship (High School Students Only).
    The ROCKS administer a limited number of Army 4 year scholarships to perspective candidates who are More information.

    These are separate from and in addition to mission support allocations. They are offline and not a part of the normal electronic system. Therefore, only paper applications are accepted with "ROCKS Scholarship" written across the top of the first page. Students who have already applied for a scholarship and their applications are in the Cadet Command database are not eligible to reapply for ROCKS Scholarship. Go to the ROCKS, Inc.   • The National Board of the ROCKS, Inc. R.C. Cartwright Scholarship

    These awards are presented to outstanding Army or Air Force Cadets or Navy Midshipmen enrolled in the Reserve Officer Training Course (ROTC) at Historically Black Colleges or Universities. The awards are presented annually in memory of Brigadier General Roscoe C. Cartwright. "ROCK," as General Cartwright was affectionately known to his friends and the many who served under him, was a true exemplar of the professional military officer.   • Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA) ROTC Scholarship

    Amount: $2000.00
    Who can apply? Sophomore/Junior Army ROTC Cadets majoring in hard science and technical majors, i.e., engineering, physics, mathematics, computer science, and computer technology. Also fields related to U.S. intelligence or homeland security are eligible.
    Other Requirements: No GPA requirement – leadership and potential to be an officer are primary factors.
  • First Command Educational Foundation Scholarship

    Amount: $1000.00
    Who can apply? Non-Scholarship Army ROTC Cadets
  • The Armed Forces Bank Scholarship

    Amount: $1000.00
    Who can apply? Army ROTC Cadets (both scholarship and non-scholarship)
  • The Armed Forces Benefits Association Scholarship

    Amount: $1000.00-$1500.00
    Who can apply? Army ROTC Cadets (both scholarship and non-scholarship)
