Summer Move-In/Out

 Check In procedures:

  • Check In: Students will visit their assigned received hall to receive their room key and complete other important check-in materials.
  • Required for check-in: All students are required to show valid ID to check into the residence halls.
  • Late Arrival: Any student who has not checked in by the first day of class and who has not notified the Office of Housing & Residence Life of a late arrival will be considered a no-show and may risk losing his or her space.
     

Check Out Procedures:

Below are the step-by-step procedures for checking out your respective summer term. Residents of the Spartan Suites that are returning to the fall semester can remain in their room.

  1. Clean room and pack items.
  2. Turn into your room key to the front desk of your assigned residence hall.
    1. Lost keys that require replacement will result in a $75.00 fine
  3. Check out of the front desk.

Session O Schedule

  • Check-In: May 10 from 8am-5pm
  • Check Out: June 26 or 24 hours after last exam. Students must check out by 5pm

Session A Schedule

  • Check-In: May 17 from 8am-5pm
  • Check Out: June 26 or 24 hours after last exam. Students must check out by 5pm

Session B Schedule

  • Check-In: June 28 from 8am-5pm
  • Check Out: July 24th or 24 hours after last exam. Students must check out by 5pm

Session A/B or D Schedule

  • Check-In: May 17 from 8am-5pm
  • Check Out: July 24 or 24 hours after last exam. Students must check out by 5pm


Fall Semester Check-In

First-Time Students

August 08, 2026 from 8:00am-5:00pm

Returning Students

August 14-16, 2026, at 9:00am-6:00pm

August 17, 2026, at 9:00am-5:00pm

 

Fall Wellness Break

Fall Wellness Break is from October 8-9, 2026. Students will not need to check out housing for the break.



Thanksgiving Break

The residence halls close at 7:00pm on Tuesday, November 24th. Residents must be checked out by this time.

They will reopen on Sunday, November 29th at noon. Students have the option to return to campus after Thanksgiving.

The university will be closed, including dining facilities. Only students who are classified as Foster Care will be permitted to stay on campus during university closings.



Winter Break

Students are expected to depart within 24 hours after their last exam or by Friday, December 4, 2026, at 7:00pm.

Graduating students and non-graduating students who are involved with the commencement ceremony may remain until Saturday, December 5, 2026, at 3:00pm.

The university will be closed, including dining facilities. Only students who are classified as Foster Care will be permitted to stay on campus during university closings.
 



Tips for Moving In/Out:

Moving In Tips

Moving can be stressful, especially at the start of the semester. Planning ahead and packing smart can help reduce non-academic stress and make your arrival smoother.

  • Plan and schedule your trip to NSU in advance.
  • Review the Suggested Items to Bring list to know what is permitted.

  • Pack similar items together and label all boxes clearly.

  • Pack clothing for changing weather throughout the semester.
  • Use original packaging or padding for electronics and fragile items.
  • Remember chargers, power cords, and essential electronics.
  • Avoid overpacking boxes to keep them manageable.
  • Pack a First-Night Box with essentials you’ll need right away.
  • Use rolling luggage or a handcart for heavy items.
     

Moving Out Tips

End-of-semester move-out can be hectic. Starting early and decluttering can make checkout faster and less stressful.

  • Start packing early, beginning with items you won’t need.
  • Collect sturdy boxes ahead of time.
  • Ship items home early, saving essentials for last.
  • Declutter and recycle when possible; dumpsters fill quickly.
  • Plan ahead for items you won’t need next year; consider selling or donating.
  • Make early arrangements for pickups or donations.
