BSED Special Education

Undergraduate
The Department of the Early Childhood, Elementary Education, and Special Education Department (EESE)  offers coursework in three undergraduate programs to prepare students for teaching early childhood, elementary education, and special education.  In addition, all students must apply to Teacher Education (see requirements below) to continue their respective course of study beyond the sophomore year.

Special Education K-12 (BSED.SPE.K12)
The Bachelor of Science in Special Education (BSED.SPE.K12) is designed to prepare students to receive a professional teaching license to teach special education in the elementary, middle, and high school setting(s).  

 

Admission Requirements:

All students are expected to apply to Teacher Education during their sophomore year.  Below are the requirements for admission into Teacher Education:

  • Complete 30 or more hours of coursework.
  • A minimum GPA of 2.75 or higher.
  • Receive a grade of “C” or higher in all coursework.
  • Receive a grade of “C” or higher in EDU 201 – Foundations of Education.
  • Passing score on the Virginia Communication and Literacy Assessment (VCLA).
  • A copy of a current transcript.
  • Letter of Recommendation from a faculty member outside the School of Education.
