Nat Warren ’69

Nat Warren, a Norfolk State University alumnus, graduated with a bachelor’s degree in health, physical education, and safety from NSU in 1969. He also earned a master’s in administration from NSU in 1985. Up until 2009, Warren coached the men's team for 17 seasons and the women's team for 15, with a combined unofficial record of 402-216. In addition, the NSU women's performance has significantly improved since he returned to the courts as an assistant coach. The Spartans completed their first .500 conference record in seven years in 2015 after defeating South Carolina State, the ten-time defending MEAC champion. They won their first regular-season championship in 2016 after going 6-0 in MEAC Northern Division play. Furthermore, In 2015, Liza Gordeeva and Mafalda Lhorca became the Spartan women's first first-team all-conference honorees in twelve years. The first-ever MEAC Rookie of the Year Award for the women's program was won by Marta Gomar a year later. In addition, he also coached numerous All-MEAC players during his time as head coach, including 2006 MEAC Rookie of the Year and 2008 MEAC Player of the Year Miroslav Vlcek. He was a four-time all-conference selection.
