Lamont Bagby

Lamont Bagby is a groundbreaker. In 1999, Senator Bagby earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Education from Norfolk State University. He currently chairs the Legislative Black Caucus in Virginia. He served on the Henrico County School Board in the past. Senator Lamont Bagby represents Virginia's 9th District.

In 2023, Senator Bagby became victorious in a special election to take Rep. Jennifer McClellan's (D-Va.) Senate seat in Virginia. He previously served for over eight years as a member of the Virginia House of Delegates, representing the 74th district, which included Richmond, Charles City County, and portions of Henrico County. Bagby has put forth endless effort to support laws aimed at preventing the school-to-prison pipeline, establishing affordable housing, criminal justice reforms, voting rights, environmental justice, consumer protections, and more. In order to help young people buy school supplies, he became involved in community fundraisers.

He became an advocate and champion for kids, teachers, and public education as a result of running for the School Board. And for that reason, he ran for and was elected to the Virginia House of Delegates. He has fought for the people of Richmond, Henrico County, and the Commonwealth as a whole while being loyal to himself. As the chair of the Virginia Legislative Black Caucus, Senator Bagby has also led Virginia through a significant transformation, making the state a fairer place to live, work, and raise a family.
