Dolline Hatchett is a true leader in civil service and a role model for Norfolk State University students. When the National Transportation Board opened its doors for the inaugural Discovery Day, Hatchett welcomed students from Norfolk State. The experience provided the students with an exclusive look into the world of transportation safety from the social sciences to STEM.

Hatchett, an NSU alumna who earned her B.S. with honors in mass communications, has built a distinguished career grounded in excellence. On November 15, 2022, she received the prestigious Presidential Rank Award, which is the highest civil service honor in the country. The award, selected by President Joe Biden, honors the diligence and significant achievements of committed civil workers in the U.S. federal workforce. The award is only available to 1% of Senior Executive Service employees nationwide.

In her current role, Hatchett provides executive-level guidance for the NTSB's daily operations in her capacity as principal deputy managing director for management and operations.

She has managed teams that effectively assisted in the completion of over 3,900 significant accident investigations, incidents, and crashes in her previous position as Director of Safety Recommendations and Communications. These included everything from single-pilot aviation crashes to significant, well-publicized accidents involving all forms of transportation.

As a result of her leadership in the historic case of the crash of a 737 Max into the Java Sea, major adjustments were made to incorporate human factors and training into the design and certification of new aircraft in accordance with the NTSB's recommendations.

Hatchett is an example of excellence in leadership. She embodies the power of working in public service.
