Devon Henry ’00
Devon M. Henry’s journey from Norfolk State University student to national changemaker is a testament to HBCU excellence. A 2000 graduate with a B.S. in Biology, Henry has built a distinguished career as a visionary entrepreneur and community leader—and his alma mater reflects that pride.
As CEO & President of Team Henry Enterprises, LLC, based in Richmond, Henry led the high-profile removal of more than 20 Confederate monuments across the Southeast, including the famed Robert E. Lee statue in Richmond. His firm received national attention for tackling difficult work others avoided, cementing his reputation as a courageous and principled leader.
In addition to his role in removing Confederate monuments, Devon Henry is equally committed to building new monuments that honor the resilience, sacrifice, and contributions of those once silenced by history. He has led the construction of memorials dedicated to enslaved individuals and African American heritage—projects that serve as powerful symbols of remembrance and progress. Devon believes that telling the full American story requires not just dismantling the past, but elevating voices that were once ignored. His work in this space is reshaping public memory, creating spaces of reflection, education, and dignity for generations to come.
Reflecting on his days of financial struggle, Henry and his wife created a scholarship endowment supporting incoming NSU students in STEM fields. His commitment shows deeply-held Spartan values—lifting others as he rises.
was honored as a Distinguished Alumnus in 2013. In 2025, Norfolk State University reaffirmed its appreciation for Devon’s achievements by naming the institution’s most prominent landmark—the communications tower on the campus quad—the Devon M. Henry Communications Tower. It is a lasting tribute to his transformative leadership as former Rector of the NSU Board of Visitors and proud alumnus. At Norfolk State’s Fall 29025 Commencement, Henry was further honored by the bestowing of an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters.
Henry’s journey embodies Norfolk State’s spirit of opportunity, innovation, and service.
