Community Education

VBHEC partners with individuals and organizations to make knowledge and skills accessible to a wide variety of learners, on and off campus. Through workshops, (non-credit) courses, forums and other activities, our program provides impactful and evidence-based education, training and life-long learning opportunities.

Anchored in these opportunities in equity and co-learning. We respect the fact that learners are our partners with their own expertise and lived experiences.

The Center for Public Health Iniatives at NSU (CPHI) is located at VBHEC. CPHI provides community education in partnership with the Joint School of Public Health at ODU and NSU and faculty and staff across the NSU campus. These collaborations bolster initiatives aimed, in part, at translating academic scholarship into community impact and often involves:

  • Identifying community needs
  • Developing educational programs and outreach activities
  • Building partnerships with local stakeholders
  • Empowering residents to make informed decisions
  • Promoting lifelong learning and community improvement

At NSU, professional education typically:

  • Focuses on career-specific knowledge and skills
  • Aligns with industry standards, regulations, or best practices
  • Supports credentialing, licensure, or certification requirements
  • Promotes ongoing professional growth and competency
  • Helps professionals adapt to changes in their field
