Do parents need to come to NSO?

Parents and family members are not required to attend the in-person orientation sessions; however, they are highly encouraged to join.

During each in-person orientation session, we offer a special program designed specifically for families and guests. Parents and guests will follow a separate schedule that runs alongside the student orientation schedule, ensuring they receive the schedule tailored to their needs while their student participates in orientation activities.

Please note that due to space and capacity limitations, we can accommodate a maximum of two (2) guests per student.

Is There a Cost for Parents or Family Members to Attend?

Yes. A guest is defined as any individual attending orientation with the registered incoming student and participating in orientation activities. This may include parents, guardians, siblings, extended family members, or friends.

The guest fee is $25 per person and applies to Day One (Thursday) only of each in-person orientation session.

The guest fee includes:

  • Continental Breakfast
  • Lunch

Please note that all fees are non-refundable. Guests are strongly encouraged to pay online through our secure payment system prior to orientation. However, guests may also choose to pay during check-in on the day of the event if necessary. Register and Make Your Payment Today!

If you have any questions regarding payment, please contact NSU Student Accounts at 757-823-9293.

How do I register for courses?
Course registration will be completed as a part of the in-person New Student Orientation process.

Students attending virtual orientation, upon completion, will be assigned an academic advisor within 5-7 business days. This advisor will help you navigate the process of registering for classes.
