Degree Programs
The Department of Visual and Performing Arts offers curricula in three programs: Drama & Theatre, Fine Arts, and Music.
The degrees that the department offer are Bachelor of Arts in Drama & Theatre, Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts, Master of Fine Arts in Visual Studies, Bachelor of Music in Music Education, and Bachelor of Music with an emphasis in Media.
Divisions
- Drama & Theatre
The Division of Drama offers students concentrations in Performance and Design & Technology. Students study performance, directing, design, management, voice, movement and dance to prepare for careers in theatre, television, film and more.
- Fine Arts
All students majoring in the Fine Arts maintain a professional portfolio that demonstrates their creative development. The portfolio is reviewed at a regular interval for advisement purposes. Participation in the Senior Gallery Exhibition and other co-curricular activities scheduled by the Division of Fine Arts is required for all students. From being Fine Arts major, students maintain close engagement with the local art community and agencies.
- Music
The Division of Music offers undergraduate degrees in Music Education and Music Media and graduate degree with three concentrations (Performance, Theory & Composition, and Music Education). The Bachelor of Music in Music Education is designed to prepare public school teachers. The Bachelor of Music with an Emphasis in Media is designed to expand careers in the broadcast and recording media. Many students in the master's program are already established musicians in the Hampton Roads including public school teachers, college professors, and more.
