Supplier Diversity

(Formerly SWaM Program)

It is the policy of the Commonwealth of Virginia and the University to contribute to the establishment, preservation and strengthening of small business and businesses owned by women, minorities, service disabled veterans and micro business to encourage their participation in University procurement activities.

Towards that end, the University

Encourages these firms to compete;
Encourages non-minority firms to provide for the participation of these businesses through partnerships, joint ventures, subcontracts and other contractual opportunities;
Requires award to micro and/or small business for University charge cards purchases;
Provides routine seminars on “How to Conduct Business”;
Partners with Small Business Supplier Diversity agency to identify new sources;
Establishes and exceeds annual participation goals;
Appoints Champion for goods, services and construction;
Incorporates small business initiative as a routine part of conducting business.

Every effort will be utilized to incorporate Executive Order #35.
