We understand your experiences as a transfer student are very different from that of an incoming freshman. We stand ready to help you in navigating through the University so that you may smoothly transition into your program choice.  

admissions requirements

The Office of Undergraduate Admissions evaluates applicants based on their individual potential for successful graduation. Prospective transfer students will be admitted to Norfolk State University if the following requirements have been met:

  • The applicant has achieved a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or above, on a 4.0 grading scale from a regionally accredited college/university.
  • Official transcripts from all colleges attended have been submitted to the Office of Admissions.
  • High school transcript/GED scores and official copy of standardized test results (SAT/ACT) are required if fewer than 12 college semester hours of credit are transferrable.

Transfer Visit Day

Friday, May 10, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. 
Transfer Visit Day will introduce prospective students to the many resources available at Norfolk State University.  Students will be able to meet with an advisor, tour campus, explore academic programs and meet with Financial Aid.  An on-site admissions decision will be provided for those who submit official college transcript’s from each institution attended. The $25 application fee will be waived.

Transfer Tuesday

Transfer Tuesday is an opportunity for transfer students to receive information on financial aid, admission process and academic programs.

Application Deadline
The Priority Application Deadline for the fall semester is May 31 for Undergraduate Admission. The application deadline for the spring semester is October 31.

Transfer grants

  • Norfolk State University offers a NSU Transfer Grant to eligible students.  The application, qualifications, directions and deadlines are below: NSU 2019 - 2020 Transfer Grant
  • The State Council of Higher Education of Virginia (SCHEV) offers a SCHEV 2 Year Transfer Grant to eligible students with an Associates Degree from a Virginia 2 year public college.  The application and qualifications are below.  Please submit a copy of your registration statement/schedule along with your application to the Office of Admissions.  Applications are due by August 24, 2018
    An official transcript must be on file with the Office of Admissions indicating your Associates Degree and GPA.  SCHEV 2019-20 2 Year Transfer Grant Application

PASSPort Program

NSU created the PASSport Program to prepare students to meet the academic requirements of NSU. Upon successful completion of all prerequisites students will qualify for guaranteed admission to NSU.
