Dr. LaVonda Brown

LaVonda Brown has trailblazed the field of entrepreneurship and created an enduring legacy for Norfolk State to recognize. Brown conducted robotics and technology research at Georgia Tech Research Institute, Louisiana State University, and Emory University after receiving her PhD. In 2019, she started her first business, ProfBrown's STEMulation®. Increasing minority youth's exposure to STEM-related fields is the goal. In 2020, she founded EyeGage® (eye gaze + engage), a startup that further investigates the technologies and techniques required to evaluate the human eye and categorize medical injuries, drug and alcohol usage, and engagement levels (patent pending).

Additionally, she was awarded a full scholarship to study electronics engineering at Norfolk State, where she earned her degree in 2010. After earning her bachelor's degree, she went on to Georgia Tech to get a Master of Science in Electronics Engineering, a PhD in Electronics Engineering, and a Master of Business Administration. With a wide background in technical product management, electrical engineering/robotics, and education, she paved the way for upcoming engineers and educators to follow in her footsteps.

Furthermore, with math being the foundation of all STEM-related fields, her objective is to meet every student where they are in terms of learning and provide them with the information they need to decide whether or not to pursue a career in STEM. In which she believes it is critical to give kids an equal opportunity to pursue careers in STEM.
