Larnell Exum

Larnell B. Exum, a civil service retiree, last served as the Director of Travel, Security, and Facilities for the US House of Representatives Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure. He is a retired Lieutenant Colonel from the U.S. Army who was born in Norfolk. In addition, he has been involved in serving the country at the highest levels of government, including working with the US Congress on Capitol Hill, in the Pentagon, as well as serving in President Obama’s first administration.

In 1985, Larnell graduated from Norfolk State University with a Bachelor of Arts in political science. Larnell is the founder and principal of The Exum Group LLC, a boutique government consultancy firm. Larnell is a highly decorated retired U.S. Army Ranger with decades of legislative expertise. During the Obama Administration, he served as the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for House Affairs.

Before joining the Obama Administration, Larnell served as the Deputy Chief of the Senate Army Liaison Office, where he oversaw the development and maintenance of ties between the U.S. Senate, its personnel, and the U.S. Army leadership. His career demonstrates a strong grasp of military, state and federal operations and policy as well as a dedication to public service.
