Dr. Javaune Adams‑Gaston, the seventh and current President of Norfolk State University, has ushered in a new era of strength, resilience, and visionary leadership. Stepping into her presidency during one of the most challenging periods in modern history, she guided the University through the unprecedented disruptions of the COVID‑19 pandemic with clarity, compassion and strategic focus. Her stewardship not only stabilized the institution—she positioned it to thrive.
Under her leadership, Norfolk State University earned the trust of philanthropist MacKenzie Scott, resulting in two historic, record‑breaking gifts of $40 million and $50 million, transformational investments that speak to the University’s national impact and Dr. Adams‑Gaston’s compelling vision. NSU also secured Top 20 HBCU rankings by U.S. News & World Report for three consecutive years and achieved a prestigious Carnegie R2 Research Classification, marking a significant milestone in the University’s academic evolution.
