James R. Harris Jr.

James Harris Jr. is a former lieutenant colonel in the Army who has served our nation and Norfolk State University with distinction. He served as a previous national NSU Alumni Association president. In addition, Harris was president of the Military Alumni Chapter from 2010 to 2014 and a member of the NSU Foundation Board of Directors from 2014 to 2020. He received the 2014 MEAC Distinguished Alumni award from NSU. In 1991, he graduated from NSU and participated in the Army ROTC Program while earning his degree in accounting.

In addition, the Harris andhis wife of 25 years, Ange, established  Norfolk State University's Mr. and Mrs. James Harris, Jr. Endowment Scholarship Fund in September 2021. They were admitted into the Emerald Society the following year and recently inducted into the Lyman Beecher Brooks Society of donors.

Harris' sense of giving is rooted in his attendance at Norfolk State as a first-generation college student who performed poorly at Norview High School. He believes that he owes NSU a debt of gratitude for providing him with a fair opportunity to pursue his career goals.

Harris is a proud member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated, and continues to uplift students and the pursuit of a higher education.
