Rev. Dr. Geoffrey v. Guns, since June 26, 1983, has been the Senior Pastor of the Second Calvary Baptist Church in Norfolk, Virginia. In terms of community service and international missions, Second Calvary is a leader. He is a native of Newport, Rhode Island, and graduated from Norfolk State University in 1972 with a degree in business administration. For six years, he honorably served as an Infantry Officer in the United States Army. In addition, Dr. Guns is an enthusiastic promoter of mission work and has led 65 short-term mission trips to Nigeria, Israel, Kenya, South Africa, Namibia, Tanzania, and Uganda. He has also traveled extensively across Israel, Turkey, Greece, Europe, Asia, and Africa. Furthermore, Dr. Guns has been the Moderator of the Tidewater Peninsula Baptist Association twice and was President of the Virginia Baptist State Convention from 1997 to 2001. He presently holds the position of President of the Virginia Baptist State Congress of Christian Education and has been a committed faculty member of the National Baptist Congress of Christian Education for more than 32 years. He also collaborates with the denomination's Home Mission Board and is Co-Chair of the NBC, USA, Inc. Executive Council of Christian Education. He served as the Virginia Baptist State Convention's State Director of Christian Education for ten years. He continues to promote his work and create an enduring impact on the legacy of Norfolk State University.
