Bishop Kim Brown currently serves as the Rector of the Norfolk State University Board of Visitors. When he talks about his success, he gives NSU  a large amount of credit. Brown admits that his high school grades “weren’t that good,” but that the University gave him a chance and helped him believe in himself.

A distinguished leader who has been the senior site pastor of the Chesapeake site for more than 33 years. During that time, he has demonstrated a unique vision and an innovative approach to ministry that has resonated with people of all ages and ethnic backgrounds. He joined The Mount in 1990 as senior pastor of the Chesapeake location, and since then, he has played a key role in guiding the congregation's growth from 75 to over 15,000 members, laying the groundwork for future growth and spiritual development.

Among his honors are the NSU Distinguished Alumni Award, Chesapeake Rotary Club's 2017 First Citizen of Chesapeake designation, and Men for Hope's 2017 Trailblazer Award. The Chesapeake Regional Medical Center dedicated its interfaith chapel in honor of Bishop Brown and his spouse, Elder Valerie Brown, in 2023 in celebration of their exceptional achievements. In 2025, the University dedicated a space in its Student Center as the Dr. Kim W. Brown & Dr. Valerie K. Brown Spartan Lounge.
