Anthony Walters has made a profound and lasting impact on Norfolk State University and the broader Hampton Roads community through visionary leadership, service and an unwavering commitment to access and equity. A proud Norfolk State University alumnus, Walters embodies the values instilled by his alma mater and continues to give back as Vice President of the Norfolk State University Foundation Board, advancing the institution’s mission and long-term success.

Currently serving as President and CEO of the YMCA of South Hampton Roads, Walters leads one of the region’s most influential nonprofit organizations with purpose and integrity. His dedication to community engagement was powerfully demonstrated during his tenure as Chief Strategy Officer, when he mobilized hundreds of volunteers who collectively contributed more than 250,000 hours of service to address critical needs beyond the YMCA’s walls. These efforts strengthened neighborhoods, supported families, and expanded opportunities for individuals across Hampton Roads, specifically in Southeast Virginia and Northeast North Carolina.

A proud member of the Norfolk (VA) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. and a graduate of the Civic Leadership Institute Class of 2020, Walters is deeply invested in servant leadership. He also serves on the Virginia Wesleyan Board of Trustees and the Regional Hampton Roads Chamber, extending his influence across higher education and civic life.

Guided by the YMCA’s enduring commitment to being “For All,” Walters works closely with donors, volunteers, and community partners to ensure financial barriers never prevent access to life-changing programs. His leadership reflects a steadfast belief in inclusion, opportunity, and empowerment—values that continue to strengthen communities and illuminate the enduring legacy of Norfolk State University.
