Retroactive withdrawal

A retroactive withdrawal is available only in extraordinary circumstances for students who were unable to complete the University's standard withdrawal process during the semester. If approved, a retroactive withdrawal results in a grade of "W" for all courses taken during the approved semester.

Eligibility

Students may request a retroactive withdrawal only if they meet the eligible criteria:

  • A serious illness or injury that significantly limited the student's ability to complete the withdrawal process.
  • A health or safety emergency involving an immediate family member.
  • A permanent disability that was diagnosed after the semester in question, verified by the Office of Accessibility Services, and determined to be relevant to the withdrawal request.
  • Other documented extenuating circumstances.

Application requirements

 

 

To be considered, students must:

  • Complete the Retroactive Withdrawal Application in its entirety.
  • Include a detailed statement explaining the circumstances surrounding the request.
  • Submit supporting documentation that verifies the reason for the request.

Incomplete applications or applications submitted without supporting documentation cannot be reviewed.

submission deadline

All retroactive withdrawal requests must be submitted within 30 business days of the last day of the final examination period for the semester in which the student was enrolled. Please refer to the University's published Academic Calendar for semester-specific dates.

Request from military eligible students are exempt from the submission deadline.

review process

The Retroactive Withdrawal Committee reviews all completed applications and supporting documentation. Applicants will receive a written decision within 10 business days after the committee has received a complete application.

The decision of the Retroactive Withdrawal Committee is final and non-appealable.
