Norfolk State University was named to Second Nature’s American College and University "Presidents' Climate Leadership Commitments. Second Nature is committed to accelerating climate action in, and through, higher education. This is done by mobilizing a diverse array of higher education institutions to act on bold climate commitments, to scale campus climate initiatives, and to create innovative climate solutions.  Norfolk State University is continuing its campus-wide efforts aimed at reducing the consumption of all types of waste. They align, amplify, and bridge the sector’s efforts with other global leaders to advance urgent climate priorities

Elizabeth River Project  River Star Business Model Award 2025

Spartans! It is a great pleasure to announce that Norfolk State University is a Sustained Distinguished Performance River Star Business! The Elizabeth River Project - River Restoration Advisory Committee, comprised of River Star peers and technical experts, reviews River Star documentation every fall for entry and advancement in the program. The committee unanimously agreed Norfolk State University should be recognized for Sustained Distinguished Performance at Model Level. Sustained Distinguished Performance represents completion of a significant new initiative by a River Star. Spartans, we can be very proud of this outstanding achievement!

 Norfolk State University will continue to initiate sustainable efforts to scale campus sustainability initiatives, and to create innovative sustainable solutions.
