sponsored Billing FAQ
What is a billing authorization?
The billing authorization allows Norfolk State University to bill your sponsor for authorized student account charges. The billing authorization must be on official letterhead of the third-party sponsor, must include the student’s name and NSU student ID number, must indicate the sponsor’s name, billing address, phone number and e-mail and must identify the semester and charges that the third-party sponsor will pay.
Where do I send my billing authorization?
The billing authorization should be sent to the Third-Party Coordinator at sponsoredbilling@nsu.edu. Alternatively, the billing authorization can be mailed to:
Attn: Third-Party Coordinator
Norfolk State University
700 Park Avenue
Student Servies Center, Suite 209
Norfolk, VA 23504
How does third party sponsorship affect my student account?
Upon receipt of a valid billing authorization, a conditional credit will be applied to the student account. If the third-party sponsor does not pay the bill by the end of the semester, the conditional credit will be removed from the student’s account. The student will be responsible for the payment of the unpaid charges.
Can I get a refund if my account shows a credit balance?
If your account reflects a credit balance because of a third-party payment, you will not be issued a refund until Norfolk State University’s third-party billing coordinator has received your sponsorship payment.
What are my responsibilities as a third-party billing student?
Students have 4 responsibilities as a third-party billing student:
- Ensure we have a completed billing authorization from your third-party sponsor each semester. Students should contact the Third-Party Coordinator at sponsoredbilling@nsu.edu prior to or at the time of registration for the semester to provide their billing authorization.
- Provide your third-party sponsor with Norfolk State University’s Third-Party Coordinator’s correct contact information to email or mail the billing authorization.
- Pay any charges not covered by your third-party sponsor.
- Pay the balance in-full if your third-party sponsor does not remit payment. Students need to follow-up with their sponsor regarding outstanding payment.
