Laboratory
The department provides on-campus laboratory facilities through the operation of anatomical, biomechanical kinesiology, exercise physiology laboratories, Dexa, Met Cart.
The department also has two gymnasiums, a swimming pool, dance studio, racquetball courts, regulation tennis courts, softball diamond, regulation fields for football, soccer and the Brambleton Center for clinical laboratories.

The mission of the Brambleton Center is to cultivate the scientific understanding of human movement to NSU Exercise Science undergraduate students with concentrations in Kinesiotherapy, Health Fitness Instruction, and Physical Education/Health Education. The Brambleton Center houses the tools to measure physiological function, by providing the opportunity for students to apply their knowledge in all clinical and practical applications of physical activity testing and measurement, and provide a regional community resource for body composition/bone density and other physiologic testing.
The HPE/EXS Department anticipates continued growth with the program with intentions to utilize the Brambleton Community Center for community outreach programs and collaborative research.

Health Disparities
The NSU Center of Excellence in Minority Health Disparities is receiving the 2018 Healthy Churches 2020 Best Practice Award at the National Healthy Churches Conference. The conference is sponsored by The Balm in Gilead Inc., which works to build and strengthen the capacity of African-American faith communities in the United States and communities in the United Republic of Tanzania to deliver programs and services that contribute to the elimination of health disparities.
The Center of Excellence in Minority Health Disparities was selected because of its partnership, health outreach and services to African-American faith communities in the region through the Healthy Churches Coalition of Hampton Roads. The Center is housed in the School of Education, Department of Health, Physical Education & Exercise Science. Dr. Cynthia Burwell is the Center’s director. The award will be presented November 15.
