Office of Clinical Experiences and Student Services

The Office of Clinical Experiences and Student Services (OCESS) is a place that is especially organized to assist you, the prospective teacher. You will have the opportunity to engage in experiences that will ease your pathway to becoming a public school educator.  

nsu preschool academy

The NSU Preschool Academy is contained within the Department of Early Childhood/ Elementary and Special Education. It is a full time program serving children ages 2 ½ through 5 years old. The program has operated as a full day program since 1980. It has a long history of laying a strong foundation for young children’s education for many years. 

Apple teacher Model Classroom
(BEB Room 225)

The Apple Teacher Model Classroom is designed to provide the best possible learning environment for our future pre-kindergarten through grade twelve educators.  This space allows candidates in all teacher preparation programs to take the knowledge obtained through coursework and apply this knowledge while developing their instructional delivery skills under the supervision of our faculty.

The teacher prep Student Support Services program

The Teacher Prep Student Support Services Program is designed to provide academic support services to one hundred and forty eligible students until they graduate from the university to increase their retention and graduation rates, to facilitate their entrance into the teaching profession with full licensure/certification, and foster an institutional climate of support and success for low-income and-or first generation college students and individuals with disabilities. 

Spartans teach

A partnership between the School of Education (SOE), the College of Science, Engineering, and Technology (CSET), and UTeach.  Spartans Teach lets undergraduate students majoring in STEM fields earn both their subject matter degree and a teacher licensure at no extra time.

Teacher Licensure Examination tutoring services

The School of Education provides teacher education program candidates with the supports needed for success on initial teacher licensure examinations, such as the Virginia Communications and Literacy Assessment (VCLA) and the PRAXIS content area examinations.  Tutoring, mentoring, workshops, and cloud based programs are provided to teacher preparation candidates throughout the academic year.
