Lisa Godley

Lisa Godley is a trailblazer for storytelling from the perspective of African Americans. Godley is a six-time Emmy-winning television producer, director, and show host. In addition, Lisa proudly obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from Norfolk State University and her Master of Science in Broadcast Journalism from Northwestern University's esteemed Medill School of Journalism. At WHRO Public Media, she is in charge of making sure that locally produced films, documentaries, feature stories, and television specials represent the diverse racial, ethnic, and gender groups that comprise this region's population in her capacity as Director of Equity Production and Outreach. Godley worked as an anchor and reporter in the Hampton Roads television market for ten years before joining PBS. She has worked as a television journalist in Nashville, Louisville, and Washington, DC, over the course of her career. Furthermore, Godley has held many other positions within the field, including the local affiliate organization of the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ), Hampton Roads Black Media Professionals (HRBMP), and its immediate past president. Godley led the establishment of the Byron Burney Community Journalism Academy (BBCJA) while she was in government, and she currently holds the position of Superintendent. The newest documentary from WHRO, which follows four young musicians of color taking part in the Virginia Symphony Orchestra's Fellows Program, has her as director, writer, and executive producer. Her accomplishments left a huge impact on Norfolk State's legacy.
