
Dr. James E. Savage Jr. ’68
James Savage Jr. obtained a bachelor's degree in psychology in 1968 from Virginia State College's Norfolk Division. Later, Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, awarded him his master's and doctoral degrees. With over 48 years of experience, Dr. Savage is a renowned and licensed clinical psychologist. By offering counseling services at the Institute of Life Enrichment and the Center for Life Enrichment, he has dedicated his life and work to the improvement of people and families. Over the years,
he has offered an African-American presence on mental health issues in the District of Columbia and the Baltimore metropolitan regions. Furthermore, Dr. Savage is a lifelong member of the NSU Alumni Association. In addition, he is devoted to Norfolk State University. In 2018, founded the Hall of Fame for African-American Psychology endowment and a psychology endowment to assist teacher growth and scholarships for students.
Recently, he was accepted into the Lyman Beecher Brooks Society at the university in honor of his charity endeavors. Has also won various community and professional honors, such as the ABPsi Service Award and the District of Columbia's Cornerstone Award. Dr. Savage was also an elder of the Elder Association of Black Psychologists and a previous president of the National Association of Black Psychologists.
