Eddie N. Moore, Jr.

Eddie N. Moore, Jr., is a true leader in higher education. As the sixth president of Norfolk State, he was considered tough, steadfast, and highly disciplined, and was often described over his professional career as a fixer. Moore came to Norfolk State in 2013 as interim president during a time of uncertainty. He is credited with putting the university back on solid footing after the institution’s accrediting agency reprimanded it for unfinished annual audits and institutional governance issues.

A stickler for rules and regulations, Moore helped lay the foundation that restored NSU to the accrediting body’s good standing within a two-year period.  During his tenure, enrollment and graduation rates increased, new academic buildings were constructed, and a new University branding and marketing program was initiated. Moore had 25 years of higher education experience, having served as president of Virginia State University and St. Paul's College and previously as comptroller and assistant treasurer of the endowment at the College of William and Mary before becoming Virginia’s state treasurer.

Moore graduated with a Master of Business Administration from the University of Pittsburgh and a Bachelor of Science in accounting from Pennsylvania State University. In 2010, the House of Delegates and the Senate of Virginia passed a joint resolution praising Moore for his numerous accomplishments and years of devoted service to the Commonwealth's residents. In recognition of his contribution to the Commonwealth, Governor Terry McAuliffe presented him with a Commonwealth of Virginia flag and a resolution. Moore, who retired in 2017, received the honorary Doctor of Humane Letters at Norfolk State’s fall commencement.
