
Dr. Carthene Bazemore-Walker
Dr. Bazemore-Walker is an accomplished academic leader, STEM educator, and bioanalytical chemist with over 25 years of experience in research, teaching and leadership at top research universities, Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and liberal arts institutions. Known for her commitment to fostering inclusive, intellectually engaging communities, Dr. Bazemore-Walker empowers individuals so that they may thrive and reach their full potential.
Currently, Dr. Bazemore-Walker serves as an Associate Teaching Professor in the Department of Chemistry at Wake Forest University, where she continues her dedication to excellence in both teaching and mentorship. Most recently, she partnered with faculty colleagues to provide leadership to a faculty learning community committed to advancing inclusive pedagogical practices in STEM departments.
Prior to joining Wake Forest, she was the inaugural Assistant Dean for Diversity, Inclusivity and Thriving at the University of Richmond's School of Arts & Sciences. In this role, she led the effort to promote equity and inclusivity in A&S through faculty and staff hiring, evaluation and professional development while also working collaboratively with university partners to craft and advance University of Richmond's policies and practices of inclusive excellence.
Before her time at the University of Richmond, Dr. Bazemore-Walker served as Chief Research Officer and tenured professor of Chemistry at Winston-Salem State University, where she led a reimagining of the university’s research strategy. She has also served on the faculty at Brown University and the University of Virginia, where she trained and mentored graduate and undergraduate students in her biological mass spectrometry research laboratory.
