Dr. Cynthia Nicholson Appointed to AACTE Board

Dr. Cynthia Nicholson

Norfolk State University’s School of Education will have a voice in national conversations shaping the future of educator preparation through Dr. Cynthia Nicholson’s appointment to the board of the Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (AACTE).

AACTE is a leading national organization representing colleges and universities committed to preparing effective educators and ensuring every classroom is led by a well-prepared teacher. As a board member, Nicholson will help guide the association’s strategic direction and contribute to decisions that influence educator preparation programs across the country.

Her responsibilities will include participating in the board’s policy-setting and fiduciary duties, guiding programmatic initiatives, and approving the association’s annual budget and financial audit. Nicholson will also help shape AACTE’s national policy and advocacy agenda on issues affecting educator preparation, including teacher shortages, funding and accountability.

For the School of Education, Nicholson’s appointment offers opportunities to strengthen the university’s national visibility, expand professional networks and build connections with education leaders, researchers and institutions across the country.

“This appointment gives Norfolk State University a seat at the table where the future of teacher preparation is being shaped,” Nicholson said. “It creates opportunities to elevate the work of our faculty, students and partners while ensuring that the perspectives and priorities of the communities we serve are represented in national conversations.”

Nicholson’s appointment reinforces NSU’s commitment to preparing well-qualified educators for Hampton Roads and beyond while contributing to the national conversation on the future of the teaching profession.

“Historically Black colleges and universities play a vital role in diversifying and strengthening the educator workforce,” Nicholson said. “I look forward to helping highlight that impact while building relationships that can create new opportunities for our students, faculty and graduates.”
