Norfolk State University Announces 2023 Distinguished Alumni Awards Recipients

Norfolk State University will honor three of its alumni at the 2023 Alumni Awards Dinner scheduled for 7 p.m., Friday, May 5, at the Renaissance Norfolk Portsmouth. Each of these graduates has demonstrated exemplary leadership and community service. They personify the mission and goals of the University. 

Three graduates were selected to receive the 2023 Distinguished Alumni Award. The recipients are: 

Kathy P. Belfield, a 1987 graduate of Norfolk State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in business management. She is a senior Budget Analyst at the Office of Satellite and Products Operations for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) in Washington, DC.  Throughout her career, she has received several recognitions including Civilian of the Year and Employee of the Month.

Dolline Pryer-Hatchett, a 1989 graduate of Norfolk State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in mass communications. She is the Principal Deputy Managing Director, Management and Operations, for the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). The President of the United States, Joe Biden, recently selected her to receive the Presidential Rank Award, the Nation’s Highest Civilian Award.

George A. Jones, a 1983 graduate of Norfolk State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology.  Since 1996, he has served as the Chief Executive Officer of Bread for the City (BFC), a social justice organization located in Washington, DC. He is responsible for managing all administrative, financial, and programmatic aspects of the organization and its 130 full-time staff. Mr. Jones is the recepient of numerous honors including the District of Columbia's Cornelius R. "Neil" Alexander Humanitarian Award and Georgetown University's John Thompson, Jr. Legacy of a Dream Award.
