86 Hours of Giving

Javaune Adams-Gaston, Ph.D. PresidentDear Members of the Norfolk State University Community,

I continue to be elated by the warm and friendly faces I have encountered since I began my tenure at Norfolk State University. Faculty and staff, students, alumni, and friends have embraced me and my family and welcomed us into the Spartan Community wholeheartedly. It is an honor to serve as President, and I am looking forward to participating in the 2021 observance of Founders Week.

As we celebrate the 86th Anniversary of our founding on September 18, 1935, I am excited to be leading an institution where learning has transformed – and continues to transform – the lives of students over generations. Our mission has always been to change lives through education, inside and outside of the classroom.

Each day our students face many challenges in their pursuit to earn a degree. For far too many students, paying for college is a major challenge. Today, we are in a unique position to support fellow Spartans by making an investment in their future so they can achieve their educational goals.

In honor of our Founders, now is the perfect time to make a gift, of any size, during our 86 Hours of Giving.  Because of their sacrifices, Norfolk State University stands as a testament to their vision, which established an institution of higher learning for everyone.

Consider making a gift to one of the following priorities:

  • Athletic Initiatives  – Gifts designated for Athletic Initiatives help the University fund its greatest priorities. Your gift could be used to help students with economic hardships; provide scholarships; support new programs and initiatives; and more. NSU welcomes gifts of any size.

  • General Scholarships  – Gifts enable academically qualified students, especially those from low- to moderate-income families, to go to college and stay enrolled through graduation.

  • Presidential Scholars Fund – Gifts to the Presidential Scholars Fund provide scholarship support to NSU students who have outstanding high school academic achievements. Presidential Scholars receive $10,000/year or $40,000 over their 4-year collegiate career.

The 86 Hours of Giving begins at 10 a.m. September 15 and ends at 11:59 p.m. September 18.  It’s so easy to give. Simply make your gift at www.nsu.edu/givenow  or by texting NSU86Hours to 41444.  In addition, please encourage your friends and family to help Norfolk State extend its legacy to transform lives for generations to come. This is Our Time. Our Mission. Our Vision.

Behold,

Javaune Adams-Gaston, Ph.D.
