Our 2019 homecoming was certainly one for the books. Not only was it a great time for our alumni and students to reconnect with one another, several alumni also took the opportunity to give back to Norfolk State University in a big way. Among those generous individuals was alumnus Darien C. Grant ’89.
Grant donated $100,000 to NSU, and presented President Javaune Adams-Gaston with a check during the homecoming game.
Grant has been donating to the University since 2004, agreeing initially to endow a $10,000 scholarship.
This year, he signed a new endowment agreement, pledging even more money to the University. In addition to his $50,000 pledge, Grant’s employer, Turner Construction, agreed to match his gift by contributing to NSU over the next five years. Together, the total contribution will amount to $100,000.
Grant is the Vice President of Inclusion for the Turner Construction Company. He leads Turner’s diversity and inclusion efforts and collaborates with its local offices on inclusion-focused programs and initiatives. He has been with the company for 30 years.
While at Norfolk State University, Grant earned his B.S. in Construction Technology. He then went on to earn his J.D. at South Texas College of Law.
