The Teacher Prep Student Support Services Program is designed to provide academic support to 140 eligible students until they graduate from the university. This program will increase their retention and graduation rates, facilitate their entrance into the teaching profession with full licensure/certification, and foster an institutional climate of support and success.

Eligibility 

Norfolk State University undergraduate students who meet the following criteria will be eligible to participate in the program:

  • Teacher Education/Licensure Major
  • GPA Requirement
  • Federal Qualification Guidelines
  • Full-time Enrollment

Program Services

Teacher Prep Student Support Services offers the following services:

  • Mentoring
  • Tutoring (Math, Writing & Reading)
  • Assistance with completing FAFSA
  • Counseling (Academic & Financial Aid)
  • Academic Co-advising
  • Study Skills
  • Test-taking Strategies
  • ALL Test fees are PAID by the Program (VCLA, Praxis II, & RVE)
  • Cultural Activities/Trips
  • Financial Literacy
  • Teacher Portfolio Development

TRIO Programs

TRIO programs are established to assert the nation’s commitment to provide educational opportunities for all Americans to enter college and graduate. These programs are funded under Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 and are referred to as the TRIO programs.
